Dogs are a mans best friend right? Whether bringing dog’s to your session is a good idea or not is a great question!
My quick answer is YES! I know that for most people dogs are a part of their family and should be included in your family photos! I am absolutely on board with you bringing your dogs! I did a session recently with Cora and her pup for her 21st birthday and we had so much fun! Here are a few tips to help make your session go as smooth as possible with your sweet pups!
First of all, I always like to take a good mix of photos, some with your dogs and some without. That being said it is best to have their leash and or a place for them to go like a vehicle (as long as the weather permits) or a friend or family member who can come tag along to take care of them when they are not in the photographs. For Cora's session her parents were there as well so they watched her sweet pup while we got some beautiful pictures of just her!
Second, I would suggest bringing a toy they love or their favorite treats that I can use to get their attention so they are looking at the camera as much as possible. We want to see their cute faces too and bribing them with dog treats might just be the way to do that!
Last thing would be if you have an energetic dog who loves to explore and run around it might be beneficial to bring your dog early to the session to give them some time to explore and run around before we get started with the session. They will hopefully get more familiar with their surroundings and be more comfortable and relaxed for our session!
Dogs are amazing pets and definitely deserve to be in your family photos! I hope these tips help give you confidence on how to have the most successful session with your precious dogs!
With Love,
Morgan
