One of the sessions I have loved the most recently has been the Extended Family Sessions. There is something so special to me about capturing the grandparents, the kids and the grandkids. It holds a special place in my heart for sure! I was talking with a friend from church the other day who is a great grandma about how amazing it is that she had 5 generations in her family alive and all together for a season and how uncommon that is.
I have been doing this project with my own grandparents where I send them a question each week about their childhood and life and I have absolutely loved getting to know my grandparents by doing this. I moved away from my grandparents when I was only 9 and I always missed them. Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved where we lived and our family got to have so many amazing experiences living where we did but I was also sad to be so far away. I know just how special it is when everyone is able to get together and how important it is to document it via photographs so that we have those to remind us of what fun memories it was to have everyone together.
Extended Family Session | O'Neal Family | Hampton Park, SC
The O’Neal family was such a sweet extended family session. Three sisters, their families and their parents all got together here in Charleston and wanted to document their time together. There were 3 boys (the cousins) between the 3 girls and it was so fun to capture them together as they played in the dirt and ran around. We got to capture many memories for their family including the boys as they looked at the ducks at Hampton Park!
That is why I love photographing Extended family sessions. These sessions are specifically for families who want to get the whole extended family together for a photo session. Mom’s, dad’s, grandparents, kids, grandkids, great grandkids etc. During this session we of course capture big group photos of everyone but we also capture the different relationships within the group. For example we will get each sub family, all the grandkids with grandparents, multi-generation pictures, all the boys, all the girls and any other combinations that are special to you. Capturing your extended family holds a special place in my heart as I know how special those relationships are.
I hope that those of you who get to often gather with many relatives cherish that special time you get with them. I challenge you to start asking your grandparents or great grandparents questions about their life. I promise you they will have some neat answers and you will learn something new about them with every question.
Hope to capture your family soon!
With Love,
Morgan
